Meet: Emma Knapp

Emma is one of our younger artists featured this year. We are really glad to support her incredible talent! \

How long have you been creating your art? 2 years

What are you favorite colors to work with? warm colors; blues and purples

How do you find inspiration? I just wait until a thought hits me or I see something that triggers emotion from me. Then I recreate my own interpretation of that idea in some three dimensional form.

Has your work been featured anywhere? Mentone Colorfest, Art on the Green, and the Birmingham Museum of Art
(this item will not be sold at By Hand Boutique, but represents Emma's style)

Get to know... Melissa Mohr

Melissa is another artist we've been blessed to have at By Hand Boutique for several years. Please welcome her back and check out her new creations for this year!

I have been creating art for as far back as I can remember. My parents recognized it from an early age and encouraged me to pursue it as I got older. Now that I am an adult with a family, art is this quiet world I can enter into that soothes me from the busyness of life.

My biggest inspiration is my fellow artist friends. Over the last few years my art has evolved and I owe a great deal of gratitude to my friends for opening my eyes to new techniques that have enhanced my work. Now I feel like my art speaks more about who I am at this stage in my life. I also feel like my work is more satisfying and personal. It has become in a sense, my baby.

I used to work with a very specific idea of what I wanted for a project. It felt too restricting. Now, I tend to work more with the items around me, the found little treasures that fall into my life and put my own spin on it. It's very exciting to see something beautiful out of something ordinary.

All the pieces shown will be available for sale at By Hand Boutique.

Featuring: Whisky Wavelengths

Wendy & David have sold their creations at By Hand Boutique before, and we are glad to have them back again this year!

How long have you been creating your art? About two years

What are you favorite colors to work with? Deep or dark reds, greens and blues.

What time of day do your creative juices get going? Usually between Midnight and 0500

Is there a special meaning behind your work? It's my way of recycling - my trash becomes someone's treasure.

Do you create with an end product in mind, or do you just see where creativity leads? Sometimes I will try to find a specific bottle or piece to use but more often than not, I see what I have on hand and where it will land.

(a sample of what they had last year- we are excited to see what they bring this year!)

Has your work been featured anywhere? The shelves and tabletops of fine Presbyterians everywhere

Sarah Grodner

Meet Sarah! This is her first time to participate at By Hand Boutique! Make sure to give her a warm welcome!

1. Each morning as soon as you wake up the first thing you should do
is talk to God.
 2. While creating your masterpieces, you should listen to Jack
Johnson.
3. To get your creative juices flowing try looking through magazines
for products or colors that appeal to you. Inspiration is
everywhere!

 4. Make sure you take regular breaks to connect with friends,
family, and walk the dogs!   :)
5. You will know you have succeeded when your creation invokes a sense
of peace. I always feel anxious when I need to create something until
I get the art out!

We can't wait to see more of Sarah's fun jewelry!

By Hand Boutique- Fall 2012!

Planning is underway for our fall event- please mark your calendars for a wonderful fall evening on Saturday, November 17th! More details soon!

Featuring: Blackflipflops Designs (Virginia Tillery)

This is Virginia's fourth year participating at By Hand Boutique. She looks forward to it all year long!

Here is a sampling of a few of her items she'll have for sale:

Each morning when you wake up, the first thing you should do is sit on your front porch
and enjoy the quiet, for the day will be full of noise!

While creating your masterpieces, you should listen to your favorite playlist! This is my current favorite one: My "introvert" playlist! (Or sometimes I listen to my favorite shows on Hulu.)

To get your creative juices flowing, you should read a good book. Look at the beauty of the world God created. Listen to some good music. Notice the little things and take joy in them.

Make sure you take regular breaks to  take a hot bubble bath or get on Pinterest to be inspired!

You will know you have succeeded when your creation invokes a sense of  happiness and satisfaction.
